Character system

From Tyranny Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Tyranny uses a classless system. The Fatebinder gathers experience points to level up, but skills are developed through use. This encompasses combat as well as dialogue, allowing persuasion, intimidation, and other "soft" skills to grow with use.

Character creation[edit | edit source]

The player creates his Fatebinder by defining their conduct during Kyros' war of conquest. The decisions made at this stage directly affect the end state of the world, including:

  • Available locations.
  • Available quests.
  • Relations with other factions and characters.
  • And much more.

Character system[edit | edit source]

Tyranny relies on a three-pronged system: Attributes, skills, and talents.

Attributes[edit | edit source]

  • Might – your character’s physical strength and attack power.
  • Finesse – your character’s physical precision.
  • Quickness – your character’s speed and reaction times.
  • Vitality – physical health and force of personality.
  • Wits – intelligence and arcane potential.
  • Resolve – ability to endure physical and mental challenges.

Attributes determine the base values of skills. Each skill has a primary and a secondary attribute that contribute towards the skill’s rank. Primary attributes increase the skill by 1.5x the Attribute value, while secondary attributes increase the skill by 0.5x. The One-Handed Weapons skill, for example, uses Might as its primary and Finesse as its secondary. A character with 15 Might and 10 Finesse would have a base One-Handed Weapons skill of 28 ( 15 Might * 1.5 + 10 Finesse * 0.5 ). Attributes also contribute towards secondary statistics, such as the Endurance, Will, and Arcane resistances.

Skills[edit | edit source]

Determined by Attributes, skills determine the player's actual effectiveness in combat, persuasion, and other applications. Notably, skills improve through active use and points gained as they improve count towards character levels.

Talents[edit | edit source]

Equivalent to Fallout perks, talents offer unique benefits. Your character has 6 distinct trees to purchase talents from, while your companions have their own unique trees.

Relations with others[edit | edit source]

Like Alpha Protocol before, the game doesn't penalize failing to win someone's affection and additional skills, modifiers, or abilities are unlocked also by making others angry or hostile. See reputation for details.
