Blood of the Beast is a quest in Bastard's Wound.
Synopsis[ | ]
Wagstaff needs the blood of Reef-Talon to sustainably provide water for the Wound. He believes that due to her magical abilities, her blood would be reusable in his water purification rituals rather than exhausted after one rite. He has asked you to locate her retreat deep within the Oldwalls and return with her corpse.
Acquisition[ | ]
This is the Wagstaff-aligned version of the quest, available after completing Tide Together without offending Wagstaff. NB! Accepting this quest locks off Bones of the Beast & History of the Oldwalls: Part I quests.
This path through the depths is unique to this quest line. You won't have to fight Wagstaff's gangs. Only the Fractured Depths will be partly under water. You will find the torchkeys in this order: blue Lazu, green Jadis and yellow Cymo. Lexeme will not trust you no matter what you say and will lead you into a trap.
Walkthrough[ | ]
- Obtain the keystone to the depths by talking to Insipid Moniker who will willingly give it to you since she is aligned with Wagstaff. Or you should already have it if you executed her in the side quest Midnight Wanderer. Take the portal in the SE portion of Bastard's Wound where you saw the beastmen kill the bane.
- You will start in the middle of the Darkened Hollow. The only path forward is to the SE. After a fight, you will encounter a sleepless denizen. Try to talk with him and take the blue Lazu Torchkey from him. You will need four torchkeys to get to Reef-Talon which you will discover by exploring the depths and find in this order: Lazu, Jadis. Cymo and Tanza (Note that to access locations in the depths, it is vital to remember that you can interact with the torches and buttons at a distance, across gaps you can't cross.)
- Return to the starting point, use Lazu to lower the stairs and walk into a big fight. Use Lazu to extend the bridge to the SE, but don't cross it. Go NE into a room and another fight. Loot a keystone from the fallen foes and activate the portal in the room which takes you to the Abyss.
- Head SW across the bridge to trigger the cut scene with Reef-Talon taunting a Jaspos war party. After a big fight, loot the fallen for a keystone which will activate the nearby portal. don't go through. Instead, go SW, use Lazu to extend the bridge, clear the western portion of the Abyss and then head through the already active portal to the Fractured Depths.
- You will start in the NW portion of the Fractured Depths, after a fight and looting, the only way forward is to jump a gap. Do not examine the mural across the gap if you want to be sure not to trigger a bug. Use Lazu to extend the bridge to the SE and walk across to the central platform where you will be ambushed by Jaspos thugs. Loot the fallen for a keystone to activate that portal, but don't go through. Head NE across a bridge, use Lazu to activate two buttons, one underwater. Press the dry button to drain the flooded section of the map, then press the other button to extend the lower bridge. Head down and around and down again to a large platform in the SE where there will be a big fight. Look for a chronicle fragment itf you have Lantry with you. Then use Lazu to extend the bridge to the SW, cross over to the sunken room and loot the cropses there to obtain the green Jadis Torchkey. Continue the loop back to the NW, use Jadis to raise the stairs and start another fight with Bane. Return to the central platform either way and take the portal there back to the Darkened Hollow.
- You will start in a room in the NE corner of the Hollow and fight some Bane. Use Jadis to open the door, head down into another fight. Your goal is to get to the SE portion of this area. Use Jadis to get there, There will be a couple of sleepless denizens just outside the final room in the SE. Talk to them to get the Cymo Torchkey. With the three torchkeys in hand you can retrace your steps and clear the Darkened Hollow and the Fractured Depths before returning to the Abyss to find Lexeme and Reef-Talon.
- Back in the Abyss, use Lazu, Jadis and Cymo to activate the torches, then proceed up the stairs to meet Lexeme. No matter your dialogue choices, Lexeme will not trust you and will walk into a trap where the Havoc, Lullaby, will attack attack you along with a few waves of thugs and Banes. After you defeat it, talk to Lexeme again, and she will give you the Tanza Torchkey which will open the way to meet Reef-Talon. At this point, you have several options: Kill Reef-Talon to make her a source of material, subdue her to make her available for farming water purification material, or encourage her to harness her gift.
